Although all car manufacturers are facing the difficulties brought by the pandemic, the young Cupra does not disarm and continues to follow a path of affirmation, which has in Cupra Formentor the presentation card of what can best do, because this was the first model of the young brand to be developed from scratch for Cupra.
After presenting the crossover in March, as we have given it to him, now the sports vocation builder of the Seat Group confirms that the plans remain, that is, that the new model will reach dealers in the last quarter, which is why it will open the pre-booking period as early as next month.
Cupra Formentor impresses with style (and not only)
The crossover that was sought the denomination to the renowned cape of the island of Mallorca will be produced on line 2 of the Martorell factory, and the arrival to dealers is expected to begin in the autumn, although the brand does not point to any specific month. It is known, that cupra formentor will rely on mechanics already known to the new Leon family, namely the 2.0 TSI of 310 hp and 400 Nm, which will be the first to reach the market. The second option is a plug-in hybrid mechanic (PHEV), to be launched in 2021. In this case, the crossover can travel about 50 km in zero emissions mode, thanks to the electric motor of 115 hp, which is powered by a battery with 13 kWh and which combines with the 1.4 TSI of 150 hp to, in the whole, debit a total power of 245 hp. Prices have not yet been disclosed, which should happen closer to the market launch.
To enhance the brand’s sporting DNA, and in particular for the Formentor e-Hybrid, cupra’s CEO tested it at the brand’s Martorell facility, with a special cicerone at his side. Cupra driver and World Touring Car Championship champion Jordi Gené has led Wayne Griffiths to experience the emotions that can be had behind the wheel of the new SUV. There is no video of the “test”, but Griffiths will have been impressed to the point that, at the end of the turn, he stated that “the Formentor means the beginning of an exciting stage and will become a pillar of the brand”.
