The 46th edition of Portugal Fashion will mark the start of celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the event and the 10th anniversary of the Bloom platform, dedicated to young fashion designers.
“25 Years Celebrating Talent” is the campaign that is already on the street with 13 posters whose protagonists, such as actress Joana Ribeiro, fado singer Gisela João, drag queen Gigi Toe or rapper Porte, appear dressed with Portuguese creators. The celebrations also include an itinerant exhibition on the project, in which the main moments will be remembered, and a party in July marked by a parade by a Portuguese duo “For now, what we can say is that it will be a Marques' moment Almeida, that this edition will not be in Porto for family reasons. The rest will be a surprise, ”the organization told the Observer.
“In the celebrations of Portugal Fashion's 25th anniversary, we will, of course, fail to evoke the history of the event and its important contribution to the promotion, enhancement and internationalization of national fashion. But above all, we want to point to the future, with a set of initiatives that highlight the potential of Portuguese fashion and show the strength of this sector as a catalyst for talent, creativity and innovation in different areas ”, explains Portugal Fashion director, Mónica Neto .
Alfândega do Porto is once again the main stage for suggestions for the next season and among the novelties is the debut of the brand B488 by Luís Borges, launched at the end of last year, with the creations of clothes and accessories of the Portuguese mannequin. The new presentation formats of the collections, which are different from the traditional catwalk show concept, will be reinforced. An example of this is the case of Susana Bettencourt, on Friday, the 12th, or Katty Xiomara who, on Saturday morning, the 14th, will add performing arts to her proposals at Casa da Arquitetura, in Matosinhos.
After stepping on the ModaLisboa catwalk in the last edition, Luís Onofre's shoes return to Portugal Fashion and with them already established names such as Hugo Costa, Maria Gambina, Inês Torcato, Diogo Miranda, Miguel Vieira or Alves / Gonçalves.
Remember that to avoid the spread of Covid-19 during the event, the organization decided to cancel the Gilberto Calzorali parade. “He is a designer with enormous potential and this decision was not easy for us. This postponement – the idea is that it will come in October – was thought of in total articulation with the Italian Camera della Moda, in order to minimize the potential propagation of Covid-19, in an event that gathers people from different parts of the world, whether in assistance , or in the technical staff ”, explains the organization.
The program starts, as usual, with the Bloom platform collections on Thursday, with names like Maria Meira, Rita Sá or Carolina Sobral, but this year the homonymous contest returns on Saturday afternoon. "The Bloom contest serves only as a kind of renewal of the Bloom platform, where the idea is that our" bloomers "evolve gradually, to the point where they make the leap to the main platform", explains the event's organizer to the Observer, adding that "of the eight finalists, chosen by the jury, two will come out winners and will be rewarded with a monetary prize and the possibility of interning in the various brands of Sonae Fashion, such as Salsa or Zippy."
As in the previous edition, Brand Up returns to function not only as a showroom but also as an urban market, bringing together design, fashion and lifestyle brands for sale and not just for exhibition or promotion. “The entrance is free and without invitation, in order to open Brand Up to the city and to captivate audiences less familiar with the world of fashion”, adds the organization of Portugal Fashion. Also returning are the Brand Up Sessions, a set of talks on current topics in the fashion universe, and the parades of the brands Meam, Concreto, shoes and Portuguese accessories.
