Glovo's services, an application for smartphones to deliver products and food, have expanded to more cities in Portugal. From this Thursday it will also arrive in Olhão, Portimão, Alverca do Ribatejo, Póvoa de Santa Iria and Vila Nova de Famalicão.

In these across the country, users of the platform will be able to order food from local restaurants as well as from fast food outlets located in these five cities, such as McDonald's, KFC or Pizza Hut.

In a statement sent to the newsrooms, Ricardo Batista, responsible for Glovo in Portugal, states that the company "has been investing in national expansion in a consistent and intense way, especially since the end of 2019". The expansion to Olhão and Portimão marks a new bet by the Spanish company in the Algarve region, where it was only available in Faro.

Glovo was founded in Barcelona in 2015. In 2017, it arrived in Portugal, where it competes with services such as NoMenu or UberEats. In addition to these cities, the application is present in 34 others in the country: Amadora, in Almada, Aveiro, Barreiro, Braga, Cascais, Coimbra, in Covilhã, in Ermesinde, Évora, Faro, in Funchal, in Guimarães, Lisbon, Leiria, Loures, Maia, Marinha Grande, Matosinhos, Odivelas, Oeiras, in Porto, in Ponta Delgada, Póvoa de Varzim, Queluz, Rio Tinto, Seixal, Setúbal, Sintra, Torres Vedras, Viana do Castelo, Vila Nova de Gaia, Vila Real and Viseu.
