It is considered a 50 million chance, but it is the case of a woman in the UK who discovered she was pregnant with twins in two separate wombs, Reports the British newspaper “The Guardian” this Friday.
Kelly Fairhurst, 28, only discovered she had two wombs when she underwent an ultrasound at 12 weeks of gestation, although she had already been pregnant twice.
The malformation, which consists of two uterine cavities, is called the didelfo uterus and is considered by the medical community as a hypothesis in 50 million.
“When I went to do the ultrasound I was very surprised to know that I had two uteruses,” Revealed in an interview with The Sun.
An obstetrics expert at St. George’s Hospital in London told the British newspaper that the condition is very rare, but that women are mostly unaware of uterine abnormalities.
According to Asma Khalil, the malformation can go unnoticed on ultrasound scans of women who have already been pregnant because the shape of the uterus changes during this process.
According to the British press, the doctors following the case have already put the chance of Kelly Fairhurst having two births at different times and the plan is for babies to be born by caesarean section.
